Their journey into the unknown began in New Hampshire in September, 1961, and would forever change the course of Ufology.

STAR MOVED ERRATICALLY:The Hills were an interracial couple. Barney, a 39 year-old black man, worked for the postal service, and Betty, a 41 year-old white woman, was a supervisor for the child welfare department. Because of Barney's ulcer problems, the two had embarked on a vacation into Canada. On September 19, they began their journey back home. At about 10:00 PM, Barney, who was driving, saw a star which seemed to move erratically. He told Betty about it, and they both kept tabs on it as they drove along.

MULTICOLORED LIGHTS, ROWS OF WINDOWS:They were just north of North Woodstock, when Barney noticed that the star was moving in a very unusual manner. When they arrived at Indian Head, they stopped their car, and got out to have a better look. Using binoculars, Barney zoomed in what he thought was a star. This was no star! He could make out different colors of lights and see several rows of windows around a flying craft. The object moved closer, and now Barney could actually see people inside the ship. Was this strange flying object being piloted by humans?

THIRTY-FIVE MILES IN TWO MINUTES:The next thing the Hills recalled was being frightened by the unusual flying object, and the occupants inside of it. Barney scurried back to the car where Betty was waiting. They jumped into the car, and raced down the highway. Looking for the object, they found that it was now gone. As they drove on, they began to hear a beeping sound... once, then again. Although they had been driving only a couple of minutes, they were 35 miles down the road!

UFO CONFIRMED BY RADAR:Betty and Barney finally arrived home safely. After seeing the UFO, the rest of their trip home had been uneventful. They were tired from their journey, and immediately went to bed. When Betty awoke the next day, she telephoned Janet, her sister, and told her about the strange object they had seen. Janet urged her to call Pease Air Force Base, and tell them what her and Barney had seen. After hearing Betty's report, Major Paul W. Henderson, told her:

Atualmente, bonecos de testes s~ao amplamente conhecidos pelo p'ublico em geral (principalmente por causa de seu uso em testes de seguranca de autom'oveis), mas na d'ecada de 1950 eles eram desconhecidos fora dos c'irculos da pesquisa cient'ifica. No entanto, na d'ecada de 1920, a Forca A'erea Americana j'a lancava esses bonecos de avi~oes como forma de testar modelos de paraquedas. Na d'ecada de 1940 eles foram usados para testar assentos de ejec~ao para cacas (que haviam sido inventados pelos alem~aes). E na d'ecada de 1950, eles estavam sendo lancados de bal~oes a alta altitude como parte do desenvolvimento de c'apsulas de escape para os futuros ve'iculos espaciais.

Entre junho de 1954 e fevereiro de 1959, sessenta e sete bonecos foram lancados de bal~oes na regi~ao do Novo M'exico, sendo que a maioria caiu fora dos limites das bases militares. Os bonecos eram transportados em grandes caixas de madeira, semelhantes a caix~oes, para evitar danos aos sensores montados em seu interior. Pelo mesmo motivo, quando retirados das caixas ou ap'os recuperados no campo, os bonecos eram normalmente transportados dentro de sacos pl'asticos em macas. Em alguns lancamentos, os bonecos vestiam uma roupa de alum'inio que protegia os sensores das baixas temperaturas das altas altitudes. Todos estes fatos, al'em de sua apar^encia, provavelmente contribu'iram para sua identificac~ao como corpos de alien'igenas.

Em marco de 2011 um documento de 22 de marco de 1950, escrito pelo agente Guy Hottel, foi liberado pelo FBI em seu sistema de pesquisa (The Vault). O documento cita de forma oficial a presenca de 'ovnis no Novo Mexico (EUA) no Caso Roswell. O agente teria avistado tr^es ovnis ovais no deserto do novo Mexico ocupados cada um por tr^es corpos de forma humana, mas com apenas tres p'es (um metro) de altura, vestidos com roupa metalica de textura muito fina.

[EDITAR] ENCERRAMENTO DO CASO

Toda a discuss~ao sobre o que aconteceu em Roswell gira em torno de informac~oes obtidas de testemunhas. Estas testemunhas guardaram suas hist'orias por d'ecadas, s'o aparecendo ap'os o assunto receber destaque na imprensa e, em alguns casos, apenas repassavam relatos ouvidos de terceiros. O longo espaco de tempo entre o incidente e os relatos inevitavelmente diminuiu a sua exatid~ao e algumas testemunhas, como os filhos de Mac Brazel e do Major Jesse Marcel, eram criancas na 'epoca. Como todos os depoimentos e contradic~oes foram explicados, o caso pode ser considerado finalmente encerrado. Mas no dia 7 de abril de 2011, o FBI divulgou na sua 'sala eletr^onica de leitura', conhecida como 'The Vault', documentos at'e ent~ao secretos sobre o caso. Nesses documentos se encontram provas de que realmente se tratava de um fen^omeno extraterreno, em um dos trechos o documento diz : "Um investigador da Forca A'erea declarou que tr^es, assim chamados, discos-voadores tinham sido apreendidos no Novo M'exico. Eles foram descritos como tendo o formato circular, com as partes centrais elevadas e aproximadamente 15 metros de di^ametro. Cada um era ocupado por tr^es corpos de forma humana, mas com somente 90 cm de altura, vestindo roupa met'alica de textura bem fina. Cada corpo foi enfaixado da mesma forma que se faz com pilotos de teste. De acordo com o informante, os discos foram encontrados no estado do Novo M'exico, gracas ao radar de alta pot^encia empregado pelo governo, que est'a instalado naquela 'area, e acredita-se que o radar interfere com os mecanismos de controle dos discos..." ent~ao o que se tratava de um caso encerrado se torna um caso sem resposta.
