Maybe it was because of my cheeky beginning in my response to T.G. Powell's, of the CryptoFlorida blog, comment on my previous post about so-called blue dogs: "Stop Killing the Blue Dogs" -- the murder of quasi chupie. I did start off my response to his comment with:

As was my point, they are not chupacabras.
My other point: that some people insist on calling these poor creatures "chupacabras" and kill them, not for "humane reasons" as you say you do, but because of fear. They don't know what they are, and they kill them because of that fear. That is not a reason to kill.
It's sad all around, and one question that hasn't been addressed, as far as I can tell, is why are there so many of these creatures, in the UK and elsewhere -- if they are mange ridden animals, why so many? Is it an indicator, like so many other animal signals of late, that the planet is in crisis?
I think you've misunderstood motivations here as well as being defensive. As I've posted many times about these animals, if they are victims of mange or some other disease, why now, why so many, and isn't their conspicuous appearance an indicator of something we should be paying attention to?
Maybe it's because CryptoFlorida continues to misunderstood my purpose in posting items concerning blue dogs/chupie news. Or maybe it's because some people are just that way; obnoxious in tone and intractable. Whatever, Powell has posted about my abilities as a "mental midget" and my "moronic thinking" in his post More Blue Dog Stupidity.
My main intent in posting items about canine type creatures who appear to have mange or other diseases -- or, who may be another variety of animal altogether -- is to point out the meme that any hairless looking dog like animal is a chupacabra for many people, and of course, these canines are not. "That" is my point. As I wrote in that post:
I've written before, as have others, that these so-called "chupacabras" seen in the Southwest are "not "the crypto-creature from Fortean or paranormal realms. These hairless 'blue dogs' are simply mundane animals. Either mange or some other disease, or, as Lon Strickland of Phantoms and Monsters writes:
"a hybrid species of Mexican wolf and another canine species. Ken Gerhard and Jon Downes have done extensive study and have written about this cryptid canine. I just wish people would stop killing the 'blue dog' just because it's been given the 'chupacabras' moniker. Below are previous posts on this cryptid...Lon"The key point here, as I've made many times, as I made in the post that has Powell distressed over, as Lon makes in the above quote, is the fear trigger response to something perceived as a chupacabras -- there fore a "monster."
I don't pretend to be a field investigator of blue dogs, and I don't say I know anything about them other than what I've read on-line from a variety of researchers. Those researchers offer interesting views and, as such, I pass them along. It's up to readers to make up their own minds. I find it "all" interesting.
My purpose in posting about these items is to share my fascination with the fact that the name "Chupacabras" has morphed from the label of a truly unknown, possibly paranormal creature, to labeling obviously mundane creatures such as "blue dogs" as Chupacabras. That's it. That's all. I quoted Jon Downes in that post:

However, within that context, I have said that it is sad people are running around shooting anything that moves just because they can. Fears based on some vague "chupacabras" creature and an unknown (those who aren't familiar with mange ridden canines, or are afraid of a new animal, if it's a new animal) kill what they don't understand. In my previous post, Powell says he kills them to put them out of their misery; as well as to protect livestock and children, and he says the same thing again his current post. That hasn't ended things for CryptoFlorida however. A recent post on his blog reveals his thoughts concerning Frame 352:

Recently I received an email from a source that shall remain unnamed, who wanted to warn me regarding my skeptical beliefs and sources in my writings (more specifically from debunkers), in which I threw caution to the wind when writing or publishing material from a pseudoskeptical source. This person went on to warn me (rather ambiguously) that I needed to clarify my thoughts on where I stood before publishing articles that seemed 'one-sided,' in which reference was made to a short article that I published in The Journal of Anomalous Sciences long ago, telling readers about the mindset of "True believers" and "debunkers" without understanding the difference between a "pseudoskeptic" and a" true skeptic." I believe the inference made was to better understand another person's stand when writing, publishing, or reading about another person's skeptical belief, and not let my skepticism get in the way of another skeptical source. Confused? I know I was at first myself. I do however, want to clarify one thing before I continue... I am, and always have been, a believer of free agency, and that anyone with one ounce of intelligence will formulate an opinion of what they 'believe' to be the truth behind substantiated facts. In other words, proof or competent, solid evidence that affirms and supports their argument, with substance, as to what and why they believe what they do should be their goal; their version of the truth, strengthening their resolve and their opinion. I like to consider myself a person with common sense. Albeit, I will be the first to admit that sometimes my logic can be somewhat twisted, but when it is, it's only to point out the absurd. However, I will listen to another person's opinion without passing judgment regarding what they believe, regardless whether their version of the truth matches or conflicts with mine. If their provision of facts and information strengthens (affirms) their argument, which proves to be sound and their data valid and concluded with a logical hypothesis or conclusion, I will often reassess what I believed to be the truth, revisiting my own belief on whatever subject discussed, to the point modifying my definition of what I had perceived to be the truth if logical and necessary. In other words, I seek the truth, not a belief system and if that truth ends up going against my current beliefs than I will modify my beliefs, not try to ignore or modify the facts/truth. All this brings to mind something my father once told me when I was around eight years old, "'For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice, a quote by the 18th century mentalist Joseph Dunninger. There are those people who will believe anything and everything they're told and then those that believe absolutely nothing at all, regardless of how much empirical evidence is presented. Now add to that two words, "stupid' and/or "ignorant," and you will be presented with a quagmire of huge proportions, especially if you're attempting to understand why they believe what they believe, or trying to presented any logical argument that gives them a "deer in the headlights look" or gives you a headache for even attempting to provide an argument. You're better off trying to figure out why a Kamikaze pilot wore a helmet. "Ignorant" simply means "an individual lacks knowledge, is uninformed, or unaware of important information regarding a particular subject or fact (e.g. - ignorant of quantum physics). While "stupid" on the other hand, not only lacks an ordinary quickness or keenness of mind (basically they're dull), they can be characterized as being mentally foolish and lacking common sense, are often inane, annoying, and/or irritating by their being oblivious to logic to just about everyone who does. Ignorance can be fixed, as it only requires knowledge and education to overcome, however, a person with decades of education, multiple doctorates and ump-teen technical certifications can still be stupid. However, stupid...no one can fix. I really hate it when I'm asked a 'stupid' question and retort with what I would consider to be an excellent sarcastic comment... stupid people just don't get. So where am I going with all this? I'm getting there Both Kurt and I formulated Desert Highlands Paranormal Research on the premise of providing a methodology resembling as close to a scientific approach to our research as possible without being scientists. We pride ourselves (and at times we've been called arrogant because of it) on trying to discover the truth behind anything anomalous, regardless of whether it's UFOs, alien abduction, the paranormal, cryptids, or the mystic faculties. We experiment with different concepts and ideas, designs and implementations of equipment or procedures, and we are both obsessive about documenting everything with objective empirical evidence. When in doubt, we throw it out. Skeptic, Pseudoskeptic, or Debunker? Well, there are teams out there that proclaim to be experts in the paranormal, yet their evidence is either subjective or non-existent, their methods are questionable, and they're either ignorant, stupid, or both (have you read what passes for science and is published on the Internet lately?). They're going for a record as to how many pictures of dust they collect. Well I used to use a 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera with black & white film (that I developed myself to save money). I learned that skill by the time I was 13 years old to earn a boy scout merit badge. Over all the years of doing paranormal research with this camera, I never ever saw an orb in any of my photographs. When digital photography first came around, I was amazed by all the photographs taken by Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) that had orbs in them. Most of the ghost hunters I knew at the time that owned one claimed them to be ghostly apparitions that only the sensor of the DSLR could reveal. Well I wasn't convinced, after all, the only difference between the two cameras was that one used film and the other a digital sensor. Otherwise, the mechanism for a DSLR and SLR camera is identical. Remembering something said by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes and a paranormal investigator himself, "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." So I decided to experiment with a simple pocket digital camera, and my first DSLR camera to determine what could cause orbs to appear in a photograph. To make this long story short, I simply looked at the environment in which many of the 'orb' photographs were captured, and analyzed. What could cause them? I discovered shaking a dusty drapery in my own home created thousands of orbs (yes I washed the curtains), then I tried my daughter's talcum powdermore orbs. I tried her hair spray and a squeeze from a bottle of WindexYup, more orbs. I went outside and cut a couple of ears of corn and shook them in front of the camera, I threw dirt in the air, I took pictures in the snow and in the rain, I tried anything and everythingI got thousands of orbs in hundreds of photographs. Yes I believed orbs were supernatural at one time, but no longer. Does that mean all orbs are bogus, pseudo ghosts or spirits? No not at all, but in order for me to believe they could be something as improbable as something paranormal, it's got to show what I call "Intelligent intent." It's got to move intelligently around people, objects, stop, slow down, speed up, and have other collaborating evidence to support itlike an EVP or captured on multiple cameras and or video simultaneously. The show has been off the air for six years now, but still every two-bit newspaper hack who writes a story about UFOs has to make a reference to "The X-Files." Well, I suppose it's better than a mention of "The Twilight Zone," with accompanying vocal rendition of the theme music. I swear I will kill the next person who does THAT one in my presence. UFO sightings over Britain more than triple this year
Beware the little green men - the number of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings has more than tripled this year, Ministry of Defence documents reveal.

The so-called "X Files" show that there have been 394 claims reported to the MoD's UFO desk from January until the end of last month, making it by far the "busiest" year on record.
Last year, there were only 118 sightings over the same period. The previous highest number was in 1997 - the first for which figures are available - when there were 331 reports over the same period. Experts say Britain is experiencing a "flap" - the term Ufologists use to describe a concentrated period of sightings. Many of the reports are of UFOs spotted at night time and describe seeing strange lights in the sky. However, some are seen in daylight. One report was from a pilot in an aircraft flying at about 4,500ft over Otmoor, in Oxfordshire, who saw a shiny, black, flying cylinder, 20-30ft long, flying about 200ft higher. According to the documents, the report was forwarded on to the UFO Desk by air traffic controllers.
Officials at the two main civilian airports in the area - Oxford and Cranfield - said the report had not come from them, raising the possibility it came from the nearby RAF base at Brize Norton. A spokesman for the MoD was unable to confirm this, but added: "These types of report do tend to come in via Brize."
Air traffic controllers at Jersey airport also submitted a reported sighting to the UFO Desk. Paul Holley, from the airport, said they were notified of the sighting by a member of the public who had seen a bright orange object hovering over Gorey Castle, on the east of the island.
"This was reviewed against our radar recordings and there was nothing that we could attribute it to, so it technically became an unidentified flying object, which we reported," he said. "Our weather reports showed it was quite a clear night."
It sounds like a case for Agents Mulder and Scully.
Gary Heseltine, a British Transport Police officer and UFO expert, said: "There has certainly been a big increase in sightings in Britain over the last 12 months.
"We are in the midst of a flap. The sightings reported to the MoD will give an indication, but the actual numbers of sightings will be much higher, because many will not contact officials, for fear of ridicule." (Or, perhaps, fear of endless X-Files references and Twilight Zone theme music...)
One of the cases in the files that Dr Clarke finds most tantalising, involved two sightings by an RAF test pilot, Stan Hubbard, in 1950. In the first sighting, he reported seeing a flying "discus shape", around 100ft in diameter, approaching and pass overhead as he was walking along the runway at Farnborough airfield.
Two weeks later, he was in the airfield's control tower with five other airmen when they spotted a similar object and watched it for around 10 minutes. The incidents were investigated by the MoD's "Flying Saucer Working Party", but they concluded that it must have been a "quite normal aircraft".
The other incident that Dr Clarke says defies rational explanation occurred in April 1956, shortly before the Suez Crisis. Radar at RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk detected a number of unexplained blips, including one travelling at hypersonic speed. Airmen on the ground and travelling in a transport plane over the base saw bright lights, but when aircraft were sent to investigate, they could see nothing. Later that night, more UFOs were seen on radar at two other East Anglian airbases, and again on the following night. RAF Jets were sent up to intercept the UFOs and although they found it on their radar, they could not spot the aircraft.
Not all the incidents were reported by the military. In 1962, a 14-year-old schoolboy, Alex Birch, took a photograph apparently showing a fleet of flying saucers over Sheffield. He was summoned to London were he was interviewed by officials from the Air Ministry. They concluded the objects in the picture were most likely to have been produced by sunlight reflecting from "ice crystals" in the smoky atmosphere.
Other UFO sightings detailed in Dr Clarke's book include:
- The crew of a Lancaster bomber, returning from a raid over Turin in November 1942, reported seeing an object 200-300ft in length travelling at around 500mph.
- A Lancaster crew returning from a raid over southern France in 1944 reported seeing an "an enormous string of lights" on the starboard side of the plane. Ronald Claridge, the radio operator, said they were part of an "enormous disk". All the crew watched as the shape tracked alongside them for about three minutes, before suddenly accelerating away ahead of them.
-On the night of 20 March 1941, with the threat of a German invasion still strong, five separate coastal radar stations reported massive formations of aircraft heading towards Britain, but when fighters were scrambled, they could find nothing. The same phenomenon occurred the following night and was repeated over the following weeks. The cause was never discovered.
-In 1956 a US fighter was scrambled from an airbase in Kent to shoot down a UFO tracked by radar over East Anglia. He found the UFO on his radar and "locked on" to the target but as he began to close in, it vanished.
