FOLLOWING our story on UFO sightings, one reader has contacted Your Vale to share his own close encounter.
Ernie Edwards speaking in his first newspaper interview, says he was walking home from work towards Cyffylliog in 1970 when he was met with a circular flying object, which then went on to abduct him.
"It was a lovely moonlit night, and as I looked up, I saw this very bright scarlet light, which became a massive round object with a pulsating light which was only about 50 yards away from me. It looked cigar-shaped to start with, and then changed shape," said Ernie, who now lives in Prestatyn.
"Obviously I knew it was a flying saucer when it changed shape. I was terrified on the spot. It turned on its side and shot off towards a house, and hovered above it."
Ernie, who works as a driver for nursing homes, also described his apparent abduction by the craft and - although he has no memory of how he came aboard - being examined by what he describes as "tall, grey beings".
"The craft appeared to me as an oval-shaped room at the time, where I was laid on a metallic table, as I were in a hospital," said Ernie.
"The beings spoke through their minds to me, telepathically and in a very strange, very fast sort of gibberish. I was just staring at their eyes.
"A couple of days after that experience I came out in a rash, from head to toe. I honestly believe that I had some sort of radiation rash after meeting people not strictly of this world."
Despite the other-worldly nature of his strange meeting, Ernie doesn't necessarily believe these visitors to the Vale were necessarily from another planet.
"It could have been the government testing aircraft of the future, but then again, it could have been visitors from another planet. Until people actually see one themselves and have the experience I did back in 1970, they won't be able to see for themselves," he said.
"With all the sightings in the area recently people should be aware that these things definitely exist. I would never want anything like what happened to me on that day in 1970 to happen to anyone else."

Reports of UFOs from the former Soviet Union are ofttimes viewed with skepticism by American Ufologists, and rightly so. It is usually very difficult to get any type of corroboration of a report, and sources are often anonymous, and / or unreliable. In the year of 1989 alone, there are three such cases. One is the case of a Russian UFO Crash, the second is an account of the Battle of the Flying Saucers, and the third is an account of giant aliens which landed in a large ball-shaped UFO, and accompanied by a giant robot, walked around in park. All three of these cases, although interesting to read about, belong, at best, in the folklore category.
Allegedly occurring in the city of Voronezh, this account was actually carried in America by the St. Louis Dispatch, on October 11, 1989. Its original source was the Russian newspaper Tass. The case begins with the testimony of several children who claimed to see a three-eyed alien, who was guarded by a robot. The children along with some adults, watched a UFO land on the outskirts of the city of 800,000. Soon, a tall alien being emerged from the ship, and shot a beam at a young boy. The young boy supposedly vanished.
The details of the case originated with one Genrikh Silanov, head of the Voronezh Geophysical Laboratory, who related his findings to TASS. Silanov says that the newspaper took creative license with his report. The Russian newspaper stated that Russian scientists had confirmed the landing of an alien spaceship. This ship was flown by giant aliens who had small, beady heads. Their spaceship was a large ball-shaped object. According to the TASS report, three of these giant alien beings emerged from the craft, and strolled through a nearby park. The frightening robot never left their side.
Members of a crowd that had gathered near the craft stated that they had seen a "three-eyed alien about 10 feet tall, clad in silvery overalls and bronze-colored boots and wearing a disk on his chest."
The giant aliens must have been frightened by the small children, because one of the aliens pointed a weapon at one young boy, and caused him to disappear. The alien himself then disappeared into the ship. The children made various drawings of the aliens and their ship which were published in the newspaper.
It is quite certain that the reports of the Vononezh aliens were highly sensationalized, and it is probable that the event did not even happen in the first place. Until more corroborative eyewitness testimony is received, this case will remain in the folklore category.
